#19-November 2008
Kia Ora from the Documentary New Zealand Trust with the latest from the DOCNZ hub.
Peter Jackson and Costa Botes' film, Forgotten Silver, is screening as part of DOCNZ Focus this month and we announce the winners for the DOCNZ 2009 TV commercial competition. November is also the month of IDFA, the largest documentary event in the world.
The DOCNZ Team
The next screening of DOCNZ Focus will be held on Wednesday 26 November at 6:30pm at the Academy Cinemas (44 Lorne Street, Auckland CBD).

Forgotten Silver (1995), directed by Peter Jackson and Costa Botes, deals with the career of a supposedly forgotten pioneer of international cinema, Colin McKenzie, who was allegedly born in rural New Zealand in 1888. Although a mockumentary, this film serves as an excellent example of how a documentary should be made.
Co-director Costa Botes will attend the screening and participate in a Q&A session following the film.
DOCNZ Focus screenings are open to the public. You may join as a member or attend single sessions. A group discount (10 or more) is available too. Bookings and tickets are available on our website. Click here.
Earlier this year we announced a unique competition for the concept and design of the DOCNZ 2009 commercial. It has been a great success.
As in any competition, only one entry can win. The winning team of the DOCNZ 2009 TV commercial rocked the judges and we are confident that it will also rock everyone else early next year. Congratulations to Brendon Hornell and Nick McHugh from Wellington - the winners of the DOCNZ 2009 TVC competition!
Now, we can't reveal much about the winning commercial yet, but we can say this: expect the unexpected!
We will make an announcement later about the poster contest.
Advertising in the DOCNZ 2009 programme is now available. Expose your brand to documentary lovers nationwide and show your support to DOCNZ 2009. For more details, click here.
Increase your chance to secure funding to your next documentary project by pitching it to local and international commissioners at the DOCNZ Summit Pitching Forum. Others have done it, so could you. The deadline for submitting proposals is 4.00pm, 28 November 2008. For more information and the entry form, click here.
We are pleased to announce the partnership between Massey University [School of Fine Arts], the University of Auckland [Film Television and Media Studies], the Gus Fisher Gallery and DOCNZ Summit.
The seventh biennial documentary conference will kick off the DOCNZ Summit on 22 February 2009. The DOCNZ Summit will follow from 23-25 February 2009. The Conference and the Summit will be held at the Gus Fisher Gallery.
The conference will interweave selected documentary presentations by filmmakers, photographers and artists with academic papers.
The Conference is calling for submissions which are due no later than 15 December 2008. For details on the submission process, click here.

IDFA is the one. The International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the biggest

In addition to the festival, IDFA organizes the Forum, Europe's biggest co-financing market for international documentary productions, as well as Docs for Sales, an international documentary market where buyers, sales agents and distributors can see a selection from the best creative documentaries of the past year. The 21st IDFA will be held 20-30 November in Amsterdam. It is a documentary heaven for professionals and doco lovers everywhere.
