Kia ora,
DOCNZ Festival (New Zealand's international documentary film festival) and DOCNZ Summit are coming early next year!
For the first time, DOCNZ events will commence just after the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) in Adelaide (18-20 Feb). Visitors will be able to attend these major documentary events in both Australia and New Zealand.
DOCNZ Summit is a place to learn and network with local and international professionals from the industry. We like to encourage you to come over and participate in our next year's programme. We are accepting session ideas till the 30th of November 2008.
In 2009, we will introduce DOCNZ Market with a digital library which will run during the DOCNZ Summit and Festival in Auckland.
We are pleased to advise that the bi-annual Documentary Conference will be incorporated into the DOCNZ Summit programme. The merge of the two events will make this the most important documentary industry event in New Zealand.
DOCNZ Summit invites you to propose ideas, suggestions and papers in the following topics:
- Looking Into the Crystal Ball: Development in Documentary Filmmaking
- Subjects
- Producing / script / filming
- Changes of audiences/ new platforms
- Copyright
- Morality / Ethics
- How far can you go?
- Digitization - Possibilities and Limitations
- National and international case studies
- Effects on the way of filming and storytelling
- Distribution
- Masterclasses for the Industry
Last year, highly awarded filmmaker, Leonard Retel Helmrich, held a very successful masterclass on the single shot technique. We welcome your ideas for masterclasses and workshops for the Summit next year.
- Humour in Documentaries
DOCNZ Festival will showcase a selection of documentaries using comedy/humour as the main theme. What makes a documentary funny and yet is able to deliver the story? Why is it still a marginal phenomenon?
- Country Focus: Germany
Each year DOCNZ Festival focuses on a different country. Germany is a strong contender for 2009 as the country will mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. We plan for a German delegation to attend the Summit and Festival and take an active part in the events.
- Pitching Forum
Use the unique opportunity to pitch your idea in front of international commissioning editors and buyers. The submission deadline is 4pm, 28th November. For more information and entry form, please check: http://www.docnz.org.nz/summit/pitching-forum.html
