Documentary Edge Industry DOC Lab 2012

AUT, Auckland 13 - 15 Jul | UPDATED 1 Dec 20111

Documentary Edge Forum DOC Lab 2012

DOC Lab, an incubator for transmedia projects. Whether you are in drama or documentary, if you wish to develop digital media ideas across platforms then you should attend DOC Lab.

Submissions to DOC Lab 2012 will open soon.

Cross media has meant that boundaries and borders are fast disappearing as one form of media intermixes with another, and then another, and so on; creating new prototypes of entertainment media.  Film meets gaming meets virtual worlds meets mobile videos meets podcasts meets audience participatory media meets social networking…. and the list goes on. With fast evolving audience tastes and demands alongside innovation and technology, new opportunities for new prototypes in story-telling, interaction, collaboration and co-productions are arising. Added to this, there is the global village that we live in, the fusion of communities and cultures, as well as our society’s need for immediacy, relevance and participation.

Up to 12 teams will be selected to attend the 3-day Lab. A facilitator will be joined by local and international mentors from diverse areas like story-telling, gaming, motion graphics and animation, social networking, virtual worlds, producing, 3G and mobile technology and film/TV making.

Together, they will introduce, discuss, develop and work on diverse cross platforms with the selected teams. This is a significant opportunity for teams who recognize the urgency in developing new prototypes for content creation and delivery so as to fully maximize the potential of their projects as well as to compete internationally.

Projects

Teams should either have a documentary project in development or one which is currently being filmed. Projects should be challenging and innovative in their subject matter allowing this to be translated across different platforms in creation, treatment and delivery.
