The Documentary Edge Forum will feature a China Day presentation on 1 March. We will introduce the GZ Doc delegation and other Chinese visitors and a panel discussion will be held about Chinese documentary making, The Chinese visitors will be introduced to the local industry and will also be invited to participate in the Date a Doco session along with all other international visitors and local participants.
In the evening of March 1, a reception will be hosted in conjunction with Auckland City Council to welcome the GZ Doc delegation and other Chinese visitors. Auckland City is a sister city with Guangzhou and we are pleased to be able to focus on GZ Doc and its initiatives.
We will work closely with Film Auckland and other industry bodies to introduce our Chinese visitors to our industry including site visits and meetings.
The Documentary Edge Festival includes a focus on China. Films have been included on the basis of their high quality and their stories of the new China.

In December 2009, the Documentary New Zealand Trust directors, Alex Lee and Dan Shanan, signed a memorandum of understanding with Lei Hong, director of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China (GZ Doc). GZ Doc is the only national documentary industry event hosted by State Administration of Radio, Film and TV and Guangdong Provincial Government.

GZ Doc endeavors to “bring China to the world and have the world know China” and has been developing towards an international, professional and market-oriented festival. GZ Doc holds Documentary Screenings, Competition, Market, Forum as well as work-shops to build a platform for Chinese documentary industry to communicate with their international colleagues.
The Documentary New Zealand Trust is pleased to have entered into a working relationship with GZ Doc. We hope that through this, we will be able to build strong collaboration between the Chinese and New Zealand documentary industries.
GZ Doc organizes annual Chinese documentary filmmaker delegations to visit international festivals and events. Such visits have helped Chinese documentary filmmakers get a deeper understanding of international documentary market as well as acquiring international standards in documentary making. In 2010, GZ Doc will visit the Documentary Edge Forum and Festival with Lei Hong leading the Chinese delegation. She will be joined by Simon Ho, Manager of International Marketing, who has been instrumental in building the relationship with the Documentary Edge Festival, having met both Alex and Dan at other documentary festivals and events overseas.
In the next three years, GZ Doc shall strengthen its ability in helping the communication and interaction between Chinese and international documentary industry so as to build GZ Doc to become an influential international event. GZ Doc wishes to help attract international attention to Chinese documentary market and to assist international collaborations.
