“A BITTERSWEET DOCUMENTARY ABOUT A MUSICAL PRODIGY THAT IS EASILY ONE OF THE MOST FASCINATING FILM SUBJECTS IN THE RECENT YEARS.” -lovehkfilm.com
Australasian Premiere
Hong Kong 2008 / 90min.
Director/Producer King-wai Cheung.
Who said it was easy being a prodigy? Kajeng Wong (KJ) was hailed as a child prodigy at the age of 11 winning the Best Pianist at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. He performed with a professional orchestra in the Czech Republic.
For 6 years, Director Cheung followed KJ’s dazzling moments on stage to his troubled teenage years revealing the price he has to pay for his talent. His conversations with KJ reveal a young man at a crossroads, unsure as to which life path to take, or what he wants. By examining KJ’s innermost thoughts, the reality speaks of a normal young man facing universal choices and struggles – the meaning of life, God, the artistic process, inspiration, his conflicts with peers and parents.
We get a glimpse into KJ’s emotional roller coaster ride as he begins to question the meaning of life. KJ is not about the victory of a prodigy, but how he learns to be a “human being”.
